The perception of time in the human mind can vary based on numerous factors, including psychological, emotional, and neurophysiological processes. This meditation video guides you into a mental state that may induce an altered state of consciousness.
Yes, this actually works to varying degrees, depending on the individual. Look at the clock before you begin your meditation session, then enjoy. Whenever you are finished, check the clock again, and please let me know if it worked for you or not.
It's important to note that while this meditation can slow the subjective experience of time, it doesn't affect the objective passage of time. If you listen to it for 15 minutes, then 15 minutes will have passed. However, these 15 minutes for you could feel like 30 minutes or an hour. This meditation music could be used for deep meditation, relaxation, or even in the background at a low volume while you do common household tasks. The more you practice with it, the more effective it will be.
There are many perspectives on the reality of time. One perspective views time as an absolute entity that flows consistently, irrespective of external factors. In contrast, another perspective sees time as relational, only having meaning about events or objects. Presentism believes that only the current moment exists. Eternalism posits that all points in time--past, present, and future--simultaneously exist. From an existential viewpoint, the passage of time leads humans to reflect on themes like mortality, purpose, and the essence of life. Time, as we understand it, might be an illusion.

Binaural beats are an auditory illusion that occurs when two tones of slightly different frequencies are played separately to each ear. This creates a perceived single pulsating tone that is perceived to be at the frequency of the difference between the two tones. Binaural beats are often used for relaxation or to help with sleep and are sometimes also used to improve focus and concentration or to induce a meditative state.
The carrier frequency refers to the base frequency to which a binaural beat is added. It's the primary tone that you hear in one ear before the offset (the binaural beat frequency) is applied to create the desired binaural beat in the brain. For example, if you play a tone of 300 Hz in the left ear and 310 Hz in the right ear. The brain will perceive a third tone of 10 Hz, the difference between the two frequencies. This third tone is the binaural beat.
Different offset frequencies correspond to different brainwave states:
- Delta (1-4 Hz): Deep sleep and relaxation.
- Theta (4-8 Hz): Drowsiness, meditation, and REM sleep.
- Alpha (8-14 Hz): Relaxed alertness and mindfulness.
- Beta (14-30 Hz): Active, analytical thought.
- Gamma (30-100 Hz): Associated with peak concentration and cognition.

These mathematical constructs contain intricate, mesmerizing patterns that repeat endlessly – each level of magnification unveiling new details that mirror the whole. As you continue zooming deeper, fractals offer a unique window into making the abstract concept of the infinite tangible through their never-ending repetition of patterns. This visual journey through the Mandelbrot fractal and other fractal patterns does more than demonstrate mathematical principles – it evokes a profound sense of wonder about the limitless complexity woven into the fabric of our universe.
In nature, fractal patterns are everywhere—so prevalent that we need only look to our own bodies to find them. Nature seems to have utilized fractal-like patterns as an elegant solution to complex problems of growth and resource distribution. We see these patterns emerge repeatedly—in the branching of our neural networks, the architecture of our circulatory systems, and even the complex webbing of mycelial networks beneath the forest floor. The fact that similar patterns keep appearing suggests these aren't coincidences but rather optimal solutions that emerge naturally.
These patterns repeat across scales—not just at the level of individual organisms or ecosystems, but at the cosmic level. Galaxies form immense, interwoven filaments and nodes known collectively as the “cosmic web.” This structure is neither random nor strictly uniform; it’s patterned in a way that’s reminiscent of fractal geometry, where complexity emerges at multiple scales. Fractal-like patterns in the cosmos could be seen as the large-scale imprint of foundational physical laws and initial conditions iterated over billions of years and unimaginable distances.
The hierarchical structure of consciousness also suggests fractal-like organization. From basic sensory awareness to higher-order metacognition, each level of consciousness seems to build on and reflect aspects of other levels. Our thoughts contain sub-thoughts, memories reference other memories, and our awareness can recursively examine itself (we can think about thinking about thinking). Even the way our neural networks are organized shows fractal-like patterns. The brain's structure exhibits self-similarity across different scales, from individual neurons to larger neural networks. This physical structure might reflect the fractal-like nature of conscious experience itself.
Emotional awareness shows an even more intricate fractal structure. Take anxiety as an example: You might feel anxious, become aware of feeling anxious, feel anxious about feeling anxious, become aware of that meta-anxiety, feel frustrated about being caught in this loop, become aware of that frustration... Each emotional state generates its own pattern of awareness and branching emotions, creating infinite complexity from simple initial conditions.
This model might help explain why mindfulness practices can be so powerful. When we observe our thoughts and emotions without judgment, we're essentially stepping back to see the larger pattern – like zooming out to appreciate its overall structure. This perspective can help break recursive loops of negative thinking by recognizing them as patterns. Each choice reverberates through multiple layers of awareness, each adding its own emotional and intuitive components to the final outcome.
In this meditation, the binaural beat frequencies decrease linearly over time until the one-hour mark, then cycles from 1 Hz to 0.5 Hz per hour.

Decades later, it’s also an accurate set of adjectives to describe sunkis - the rapidly rising Chinese-American singer who feels like a refreshing sip of sweetness on a hot day.
